School-age Children - ages 6-13

Youth with FAS may have some or many of the following behaviors associated with FAS:

  • Hyperactivity and or impulsive
  • Lack of organizational skills
  • Lack of social skills, like in making friends
  • Academic problems
  • Communication problems
  • Can be affectionate and friendly to all people, cannot discriminate a stranger from a friend or family.
  • Disruptive school behaviors

Secondary Problems

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention many secondary problems can be associated with FAS. The CDC states:

Secondary conditions are problems that a person is not born with, but might acquire as a result of FAS. These conditions can be lessened or prevented through better understanding of and appropriate interventions for children and adults with FAS and their families.
