The Search Institute has identified 40 positive experiences and qualities that are essential in raising happy and well-adjusted young people. In this section, you will learn the 20 external assets that youth attain from the world around them. These assets can be attained through interactions with family, community, school, and other outside influences. In addition, you will learn the 20 internal assets that youth develop from within. These assets affect their values, beliefs, and mores. Developmental Assets explore the individual qualities and social supports that help children and youth make good decisions and grow to be healthy and successful. Try incorporating some of these activities into your child’s day. Take stock of what developmental assets that your child is already receiving, then find ways to give them more.
